Lavender Harvest Castile Soap

The Lavender Harvest Castile bar contains only THREE ingredients:  Saponified extra virgin olive oil, organic calendula flowers, and organic lavender essential oil.

What is castile soap? A TRUE castile soap is made with just one oil, OLIVE oil.  It originated out of the Castile region of Spain.  Some people add other oils to the soap to give it a whiter color (as you’ll see true castile soap comes out a creamy yellow) and to modify the lather and feel, but we are nerds and purists, so we make a straight up castile soap (with a few therapeutic additions).

We recommend this to clients prone to dry skin, especially in the winter months.   It makes a stable, mild and creamy lather in a soap.  A pure castile soap is a great choice for people with sensitive skin, those who need to avoid chemicals, mature skin and young skin.  No questionable ingredients, just pure goodness to help nourish the skin without adding a bunch of junk.

A pure castile soap also has an incredibly long shelf life.

It’s SUPER important to pay attention to olive oil quality though.  Many olive oils are imposters, and have been shown through testing to be other oils (like soybean oil) in disguise.  Or, even if it is real olive oil, if this delicate oil isn’t protected from heat and light (pro tip: never buy olive oil in a clear bottle, always look for brown or green containers to help block out the light) the delicate omega 3 fatty acids can become damaged and rancid.  This goes for both body products and the oils you eat!  We’ve included a link to an article below discussing the issues with fake oils.  http://www.truthinoliveoil.com/2012/09/toms-supermarket-picks-quality-oils-good-prices

As to what kind of olive to use (extra virgin v. pomace-the last press) there are many opinions and a lot of soap makers will use the pomace press because it’s cheaper, but we prefer EVOO to ensure the soap contains all the beneficial compounds that olives bring to the table.

Each bar weighs approximately 4-5 oz. Since every bar is made in small batches and hand-cut, the sizes and weight will vary slightly.

Due to the handmade nature of this soap, each bar will differ slightly from the pictures above.

Each bar has been cold processed in small batches and is cured for at least 4 weeks.  This ensures a pH neutral product, and helps to create a harder, longer-lasting bar that won’t just melt away in the shower after a few uses. While we believe this creates the best possible quality product, it does create a slower inventory process.  If we do not have enough bars to ship at the time you place your order, you will be alerted immediately and will have the option to maintain your order, in which case the bars will be shipped to you as soon as they become available (we will provide an approximate date for shipping availability), or you can cancel your order and reorder at a later date.

We make no claims on our soap, other than that we LOVE them and use them ourselves every day.  We hope you do too. Please read the ingredients list carefully and do not use if you have sensitivities to any of the ingredients. As with any product, please discontinue use if irritation occurs.

To preserve the life of our soaps, we recommend keeping them as dry as possible between uses.
